Beach & Trail Tours on Fat Bikes
A Wilderness Coast Fat Bike is a mountain bike designed to use special 4 inch wide tyres. They let you to ride terrain that is not possible on a normal MTB. For beach riding we inflate the tyres to about 5 PSI. Fat tyres with such low pressure allow the bike to float on sand & snow with less impact to the environment than a hiking boot. In fact it is usually easier to ride on the sand than to walk on it. Riding a Fat Bike is more confidence inspiring than a standard bike as they roll over obstacles easier, have much better grip and provide a soft suspended ride.
The only difference between riding a standard MTB and a Fat Bike is the size of the smile on your face!
Wilderness Coast Adventures has a fleet of Fat Bikes in different sizes to fit riders between 159cm - 200cm. Our Wheeler Savana's have quality Shimano components featuring 20 speed gears and hydraulic disc brakes. The controls on the bikes are identical to standard MTB's, in fact the main difference between a riding Fat Bike and your normal bike is looking down on the huge 4 inch wide front tyre. Most people comment that the front tyre on their normal bike looks too skinny and weird when they ride it after getting off a "Fatty".
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
Wilderness Coast Adventures guides small groups of up to 6 bikes on the on the beaches and trails around Marlo. Our Tours range from 1-2 hours to full day rides. We have a tours suitable for all types of riders, some like it cruisy, some like it challenging. The one thing that all of our tours have in common is the pace. We like it slow! We've found when we slow it down it's more fun, we see much more and we hear more. Average speeds on our tours are generally under 10km/hour. Let's face it, Fat Bikes are built for comfort - not for speed! Some of the trails we use are also used by hikers, horse riders and the local wildlife (who you're not going to appreciate as you race by at 30k's). Our rides are by no means extreme but include challenges to suit all skill and fitness levels.
