While some areas may remain dry, thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening from the east and move slowly towards the west or northwest. These thunderstorms could bring heavy rain, accompanied by frequent lightning, with the potential for 25 to 30 mm of rain within 1 or 2 hours in some places, and possibly up to 50 mm in localized areas. Hail may also be possible in a few places.
To prepare for potential flooding, assess whether your location is at risk and consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit. Stay informed about road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust travel plans accordingly to avoid delays.
It is advisable to be ready for power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities in advance. If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area such as a car, and avoid proximity to trees or structures that may attract lightning strikes. If in an elevated area, move to lower ground.
Stay alert for any changing weather warnings as conditions may shift rapidly. The Met Office recommends staying updated on local weather forecasts when a weather warning is issued.
