Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Strathclyde

In Effect From:
May 12th, 2:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 13th, 4:00 am
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential disruption in travel and isolated property flooding possible due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

There is a likelihood of heavy showers, possibly accompanied by thunder, in western Scotland on Sunday afternoon. Later in the evening, there may be further heavy rain, with a chance of thunder in some areas, mainly in the south. Intense downpours could occur in certain locations, resulting in 20 to 30 mm of rain in less than an hour and potentially 30-50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, leading to surface water flooding.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess if your area is at risk and consider creating a flood plan and gathering an emergency flood kit. Stay ahead of possible delays by checking road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjusting your travel arrangements as needed.

It's important to be ready for power outages by having essential items such as torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack on hand. If you are outdoors during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe, enclosed space (like a car) and avoid being near trees or structures that could attract lightning strikes. Stay alert for rapid changes in weather warnings, and stay updated on the forecast for your area from the Met Office.
