Met Office Issues Yellow warning for North West England

In Effect From:
May 12th, 1:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 12th, 11:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential disruption in travel and isolated property flooding possible due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

There is a likelihood of heavy showers and thunderstorms in the south and west of the area early Sunday afternoon, moving north and increasing in intensity before clearing in the late evening. Some places may experience intense downpours, resulting in up to 30 mm of rainfall in less than an hour and possibly 50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, leading to surface water flooding. Large hail, frequent lightning strikes, and strong wind gusts are additional hazards in localized areas.

To prepare for the weather, consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding and create a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. Secure moveable objects and temporary structures like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions and public transportation schedules for any changes and gather essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities to cope with power cuts.

If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in an enclosed space such as a car and avoid trees or structures that may attract lightning strikes. Be prepared for rapidly changing weather warnings by staying informed with the latest forecast updates from the Met Office.
