Met Office Issues Yellow warning for East Midlands

In Effect From:
May 26th, 12:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 26th, 8:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Slow-moving storms could lead to flooding and disruptions in certain areas

Expect slow-moving showers and thunderstorms to develop on Sunday afternoon, with varying rainfall accumulations across the warning area. In areas where showers become organized, there is a possibility of 20-30 mm of rain falling in an hour or less, along with frequent lightning and hail impacts, particularly in the east.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit for your location. Secure moveable objects and temporary structures like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, and adjust travel plans accordingly to avoid delays.

Be ready for power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities. If outside during a thunderstorm, seek a safe enclosed shelter like a car and avoid trees or structures that could be struck by lightning. Stay informed about quickly changing weather warnings and updates from the Met Office to stay safe.

What To EXPECT

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage from floodwater and lightning strikes
