Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Grampian

In Effect From:
May 27th, 11:00 am
In Effect Till:
May 27th, 10:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Heavy showers and thunderstorms moving slowly could lead to floods and disruptions in some areas.

Expect slow-moving showers and thunderstorms to develop on Monday, bringing varying rainfall accumulations across the warning area. While 10-20 mm in an hour is likely in some areas, there is a chance of up to 30-40 mm in a few hours. Lightning may also pose a threat.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess the risk to your location and consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit. Safeguard your property and loved ones by securing moveable objects and temporary structures, such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences, before gusty winds arrive.

Stay informed and avoid potential delays by checking road conditions, as well as bus and train timetables, and adjusting your travel plans if necessary. Be ready for power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities.

If you are outdoors and hear thunder, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area, such as a car. Avoid standing under or near trees or structures that could be struck by lightning. If you are in a high location, move to lower ground. Stay updated on weather warnings, as they can change rapidly, by regularly checking the weather forecast in your area.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a possibility of homes and businesses being flooded quickly, resulting in damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds
  • There is a small chance of swift-flowing or deep floodwater posing a threat to life
  • If flooding or lightning strikes happen, there is a potential for disruptions and possible cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding may create challenging driving conditions and lead to some road closures
  • There is a slight possibility of power cuts occurring and other services being lost to some homes and businesses
