In Effect From:
May 12th, 2:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 13th, 4:00 am
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Risk of travel disruption and isolated flooding from heavy showers and thunderstorms.

There is a likelihood of heavy showers, possibly accompanied by thunder, in parts of western Scotland on Sunday afternoon, followed by more heavy rain and possible thunder in the south during the evening. Intense downpours could bring 20 to 30 mm of rain in less than an hour and possibly 30-50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, leading to surface water flooding.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, consider creating a flood plan and putting together an emergency flood kit. Stay informed about road conditions, bus and train schedules, and be ready to adjust travel plans if necessary.

To be better prepared for power cuts, gather essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessary supplies. If you are caught outside during thunderstorms, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area (such as a car) and avoid standing near trees or structures that could be struck by lightning. Be ready for rapid changes in weather warnings and stay updated with the latest forecasts from the Met Office.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a slight possibility of homes and businesses being flooded quickly, resulting in damage to buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds

  • If flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a possibility of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding may result in challenging driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that certain communities may become isolated due to flooded roads
