Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Central, Tayside & Fife

In Effect From:
May 29th, 10:00 am
In Effect Till:
May 29th, 7:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Wednesday to bring more heavy showers and thunderstorms, leading to potential travel disruptions and flooding.

Early showers on Wednesday will increase in intensity and coverage later in the morning, continuing into the afternoon. Some showers and storms may linger, potentially bringing 15-20 mm of rain in less than an hour and up to 30-40 mm in a few hours. Lightning and hail are also possible.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess the risk to your location and create a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. Secure moveable objects and temporary structures (such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences) before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions and public transportation schedules to avoid delays, and gather supplies for potential power cuts, including torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.

If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area such as a car, avoiding trees and elevated areas that may attract lightning strikes. Stay vigilant for rapidly changing weather warnings, and stay informed about the forecast in your area.

What To EXPECT

  • Some homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage from various sources like floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater could pose a danger to life
  • If flooding or lightning strikes occur, there could be delays and cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding may create challenging driving conditions and lead to road closures
  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and potential loss of other services for some homes and businesses
