In Effect From:
May 6th, 1:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 6th, 9:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to flooding and travel disruptions.

Thunderstorms and heavy downpours may develop in certain areas later today and tonight. While not all locations will experience these storms and downpours, those that do could see 20 to 40 mm of rain within an hour or two.

To prepare, assess whether your area is prone to flash flooding and create a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. Stay informed about potential travel disruptions by checking road, bus, and train conditions, adjusting your plans accordingly.

It is helpful to be ready for power outages by stocking up on essentials like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area like a car, avoiding trees and other structures that could attract lightning strikes. Be vigilant as weather warnings can change rapidly, and the Met Office advises staying updated on local forecasts.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a slight chance of homes and businesses being flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • There is a slight chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a slight chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and suddenly flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
