Met Office Issues Yellow warning for East of England

In Effect From:
May 22nd, 12:15 am
In Effect Till:
May 23rd, 6:00 am
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Impending heavy rain could lead to flooding and travel disruptions.

An area of rain is forecasted to form over eastern and central England, moving northwestwards to impact northern England and north Wales on Wednesday afternoon. The rain may slow down, intensify, and persist, particularly over north-facing hills, before clearing by Thursday morning.

There is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest rainfall will occur, with the warning likely to be updated. Most areas can expect 30-40 mm of rain, while some regions could receive 60-80 mm. There is a slight possibility that certain upland areas might experience much higher levels, reaching 100-150 mm.

To prepare for potential flooding, assess the risk to your property and develop a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit. Stay informed about road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust travel arrangements as needed to minimize delays.

In the event of power outages, it is beneficial to have necessary supplies such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essentials readily available. Remain vigilant as weather warnings may change rapidly, and the Met Office advises staying updated on local weather forecasts.
