In Effect Till:

Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Wednesday to bring more heavy showers and thunderstorms, potential for travel disruption and flooding.

Wednesday will start with light showers that will intensify and become more widespread later in the morning and into the afternoon. Some of these showers and storms may move slowly and last for an extended period, potentially bringing 15-20 mm of rain in less than an hour, with totals reaching 30-40 mm in just a few hours. Lightning and hail could also pose additional risks.

To prepare for the possibility of flash flooding, it is advisable to consider creating a flood plan and putting together an emergency flood kit. Make sure to secure any moveable objects or temporary structures, such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences, before gusty winds arrive.

Checking road conditions, bus and train timetables, and adjusting travel plans if needed can help minimize potential delays. Being ready for power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack can also make coping easier.

If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed space, like a car, and avoid trees or structures that could be struck by lightning. Stay informed and prepared for any quickly changing weather warnings by staying up to date with the forecast from the Met Office.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a slight chance of homes and businesses being flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds
  • There is a slight chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a slight chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
