Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Highlands & Eilean Siar

In Effect From:
May 12th, 2:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 13th, 3:00 am
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Possible travel disruption and isolated property flooding due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Expect heavy showers, possibly accompanied by thunder, in western Scotland on Sunday afternoon. Later in the evening, more heavy rain, with a chance of thunder in the south, is expected to move in from the south. There could be intense downpours in some areas, with 20 to 30 mm of rain in under an hour and potentially 30-50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, causing surface water flooding.

Ensure you are prepared for flash flooding in your area by creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit. Check road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust your travel plans accordingly to avoid delays.

To better handle power outages, gather torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessary supplies. If you are caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed location, like a car. Avoid standing near trees or other structures that could be struck by lightning, and move to lower ground if you are on higher terrain.

Stay alert for changes in weather warnings, as they can evolve rapidly. Stay informed about the local weather forecast to stay safe.
