In Effect From:
May 26th, 12:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 26th, 8:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential flooding and disruption expected in areas due to slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop slowly on Sunday afternoon, with rainfall accumulations varying significantly across the warning area. In areas where showers are more organised, there is a possibility of 20-30 mm of rain falling in an hour or less. Frequent lightning and hail, particularly in the east, could also cause impacts.

Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding and prepare a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. Protect your property and people from injury by securing moveable objects and temporary structures before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions if driving and amend travel plans if needed to avoid delays.

Prepare for potential power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area like a car, avoiding trees and other structures that may attract lightning strikes. Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly and stay up to date with the weather forecast in your area.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a possibility of homes and businesses being flooded quickly, resulting in damage to buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes
  • If flooding or lightning strikes happen, there is a chance of delays and possible cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could create challenging driving conditions and lead to some road closures
  • There is a slight possibility that certain communities may temporarily become isolated due to flooded roads
  • There is a small chance of power cuts and potential loss of services to some homes and businesses
