Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential for travel disruption and isolated property flooding due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

There is a high chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms in the southern part of the area on Sunday morning and early afternoon, moving northward and expanding into larger areas of rain before moving out. Some areas may experience intense downpours, with the potential for up to 30 mm of rain in less than an hour and possibly 40-50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, leading to surface water flooding. Hail, frequent lightning, and strong wind gusts are also possible hazards in certain locations.

To prepare for the potential flash flooding, consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit if you are in a vulnerable area. Secure any moveable objects or temporary structures, like bins, garden furniture, and tents, before the arrival of gusty winds. Stay informed about road conditions and public transport schedules in case of delays.

In the event of power cuts, having essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack can help you cope better. If you are outdoors during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed space like a car and avoid trees or other structures that may attract lightning strikes. Stay updated on weather warnings as they can change rapidly according to the Met Office's recommendations.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a possibility of fast-flowing or deep floodwater posing a risk to life, especially in areas like road and railway underpasses.
  • There is a chance of rapid flooding of homes and businesses, with potential damage from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds.
  • Spray and sudden flooding may create hazardous driving conditions and lead to some road closures.
  • There is a small likelihood of power outages and possible disruption of services to certain homes and businesses.
  • In the event of flooding or lightning strikes, there is a possibility of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services.
