Met Office Issues Yellow warning for North West England

In Effect From:
May 28th, 3:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 28th, 11:59 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Intense storms could lead to flooding and travel disruptions with heavy rain and thunderstorms.

This afternoon heavy showers and thunderstorms will move eastwards before gradually decreasing later this evening. In areas where storms are frequent, rainfall could accumulate to 20-30 mm over 2-3 hours. Expect additional hazards such as frequent lightning, hail, and gusty winds in some locations.

To stay safe, assess if your area is at risk of flash flooding and consider creating a flood plan and emergency kit. Secure moveable objects and temporary structures, like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, and tents, before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions and transport timetables to avoid delays in your travel plans.

Prepare for power cuts by gathering torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essentials. If caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area such as a car. Avoid trees or structures that could be struck by lightning, and move to lower ground if you are on elevated terrain.
