Met Office Issues Yellow warning for North West England

In Effect From:
June 15th, 11:00 am
In Effect Till:
June 15th, 10:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential travel and outdoor activity disruptions due to slow-moving thunderstorms and heavy showers.

There is a forecast for showers and thunderstorms to become more widespread in the afternoon and continue into the evening. While not every location will experience a thunderstorm, those that do may encounter slow-moving storms with lightning, hail, and heavy rain. The heaviest storms could result in up to 20 mm of rain in under an hour, with isolated areas seeing even higher amounts in a short period.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess if your area is at risk and create a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit. Stay ahead of any delays by checking road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust your travel plans accordingly.

It is beneficial to anticipate power cuts by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities in advance. When outdoors during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed area like a car to avoid lightning strikes. Avoid taking cover near trees or structures that are prone to lightning strikes and move to lower ground if you are on elevated terrain.

We advise staying informed about any weather warnings as they may change rapidly. The Met Office recommends keeping abreast of the weather forecast for your area to stay prepared.
