In Effect From:
May 12th, 2:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 13th, 4:00 am
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Thunderstorms and heavy showers could cause disruptions, particularly for travel, with potential for isolated property flooding.

There is a likelihood of heavy showers, including some thundery activity, occurring in parts of western Scotland on Sunday afternoon. Following this, more heavy rain is expected to move in from the south during Sunday evening, with a possibility of thunder in some areas, particularly in the south. Intense downpours may occur in certain locations, leading to 20 to 30 mm of rainfall in less than an hour and potentially 30-50 mm over 2 to 3 hours, which could result in surface water flooding.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess whether your location is at risk and consider creating a flood plan and assembling an emergency flood kit. Checking road conditions before driving and adjusting travel plans accordingly can help avoid delays. It is advisable to gather essential items such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities in case of power cuts.

If you are outdoors and hear thunder, seek shelter in a safe enclosed space, such as a car, and avoid trees or structures that may attract lightning. Moving to lower ground if you are on an elevated area is also recommended. Stay informed about changing weather warnings, as the Met Office advises keeping up to date with local forecasts when a weather warning is issued.
