An area of rain is forecasted to develop over eastern and central England, then moving northwest to impact northern England and north Wales on Wednesday afternoon. The rain may become heavy and prolonged, especially over north facing hills, before clearing on Thursday morning. There is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest rain will fall, so this warning may be updated. Most areas can expect 30-40 mm of rain, with some areas possibly receiving 60-80 mm. There is a small chance that upland areas could see significantly higher totals, around 100-150 mm.
To prepare, check if your property is at risk of flooding and create a flood plan and emergency flood kit if necessary. Stay informed about road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust travel plans accordingly. Prepare for power cuts by having torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essentials on hand. Stay alert for changing weather warnings and stay updated with the forecast for your area from the Met Office.
