In Effect From:
May 22nd, 12:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 23rd, 6:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Strong rainfall could lead to flooding and transportation delays.

From Wednesday afternoon, a region of intense rain is forecasted to move northwest across Scotland, with the heaviest rainfall expected over northern and eastern hills. As Thursday progresses, the rain is anticipated to become more scattered in central and southern regions. Although there is uncertainty regarding the duration and location of the heaviest downpours, there is a slight possibility that the rainfall may linger over Moray and northern Aberdeenshire, and to a lesser extent Lothian and Borders. In such an event, some areas could experience 60-80 mm of rainfall within 12 hours, with a very low chance of reaching 100 mm.

To prepare for the weather conditions, it is advisable to check if your property is at risk of flooding and create a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit. Stay informed about road conditions if driving, or public transport schedules if using buses or trains, and adjust your travel arrangements as needed to avoid delays. In the event of power cuts, having essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities prepared in advance can help you cope better. Be ready for rapid changes in weather alerts by staying updated on the weather forecast for your area when a warning is issued by the Met Office.
