In Effect From:

In Effect Till:
May 26th, 8:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to flooding and disruption in certain areas

During Sunday afternoon, expect slow-moving showers and thunderstorms to develop. Rainfall amounts will vary within the warning area, but in areas where showers become organized, there is a chance of 20-30 mm of rain falling in an hour or less. Frequent lightning and hail, particularly in the eastern part of the region, could also cause impacts.

Here are some recommended actions:
- Assess if your location is susceptible to flash flooding. If so, consider creating a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
- Take steps to safeguard your property and individuals from harm. Before strong winds occur, make sure moveable objects and temporary structures are properly secured, including bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences.
- Stay ahead of the game by checking road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust travel plans if needed to avoid delays.
- Be better prepared for power outages by gathering torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essentials.
- If outdoors and hear thunder, seek shelter in a safe enclosed space, like a car. Avoid seeking shelter near trees or structures that could be struck by lightning. If you are in a high area, move to lower ground.
- Always be ready for sudden changes in weather warnings. Stay updated with the local weather forecast when a warning is issued by the Met Office.

What To EXPECT

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become temporarily cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
