Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Wales

In Effect From:
May 6th, 1:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 6th, 9:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Thunderstorms and torrential rain could lead to flooding and travel problems.

Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected to develop in some areas later today and tonight. While not every location will experience these storms, those that do could see rainfall totals of 20 to 40 mm within a short period of time.

To prepare for potential flash flooding, assess the risk to your area and make a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit. Stay informed about road conditions, bus and train schedules, and adjust your travel plans accordingly to avoid delays.

In the event of a power outage, having essential items gathered in advance such as torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities can help you cope better.

If you are caught outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a safe enclosed space like a car. Avoid taking shelter near trees or other tall structures that could be struck by lightning. Move to lower ground if you are on a higher elevation.

Stay vigilant for rapidly changing weather warnings and keep updated on the forecast for your area with the Met Office.
