Met Office Issues Yellow warning for Wales

In Effect From:
May 12th, 1:00 pm
In Effect Till:
May 12th, 11:00 pm
Current Status:
Warning No Longer In Effect

Potential travel disruptions and property flooding expected due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Expect heavy showers and thunderstorms developing in the south and west of the area on Sunday afternoon, moving northwards and intensifying into widespread heavy rain before clearing by late evening. There is a possibility of intense downpours in some areas, with up to 30mm of rain in under an hour and potentially 50mm over 2 to 3 hours, leading to surface water flooding. Additional hazards may include large hail, frequent lightning, and strong wind gusts.

Consider the risk of flash flooding for your location and make a flood plan, along with an emergency flood kit. Secure moveable objects and temporary structures like bins, garden furniture, and sheds before gusty winds arrive. Check road conditions and transport timetables to avoid delays if traveling. Prepare for power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.

Seek shelter in a safe enclosed area if you are outside and hear thunder, avoiding trees or structures that may be struck by lightning. Stay informed about changing weather warnings and updates from the Met Office to ensure you are prepared for any changes in the forecast.
