Our thoughts go out today, to the families of passengers and crew of Germanwings 4U 9525, which crashed this morning in the French Alps with 140 passengers on-board.

At the time of the crash, the weather was calm over the Alps. However, it is thought that the plane had flown through unstable weather conditions in the Mediterranean. At this time it is unknown whether the weather played any part in the crash.

The weather in the area where Germanwings 4U 9525 crashed is likely to deteriorate this afternoon as a storm system moves into the region. The site may be difficult to access as it is a remote area with limited roadways.
