Žanis Lipke Memorial is a museum dedicated to a Latvian man Žanis Lipke (1900 - 1987), a simple worker, who managed to rescue more than 50 Jews from Riga ghetto and concentration camps during the Nazi occupation of Latvia in 1941 to 1944 with the help of his family members and 25 others. Žanis set up several hiding places in Riga, one of them just by his house in Ķīpsala - a bunker under a woodshed. For his courage and selflesness Žanis Lipke was awarded with the "Righteous Among the Nations" title in 1966.
The memorial is located next to Lipke's house in Ķīpsala, an island in the river Daugava, just across from Riga Old town. The main display tells the story of Žanis selfless act, the fates of his family members and the rescued people.

The Lipke Memorial is the expression of a very clear and purified idea, a very ascetic and laconic project. It affects all the senses: vision, hearing, the olfactory sense. The inside of the shed is a labyrinth through which one searches for the concealed pit. The visitor is emotionally guided along the perimeter of the shed, then he climbs to the attic and comes to the hatch through which the bunker at the bottom of the cellar can be seen. The bunker is 3x3 m, has wooden bunks and matches the historical bunker. The space in the attic is the main exhibition hall of the museum with a visually open roof through which sunrays penetrate at dusk from the coveted outside world – from freedom. The architect of the memorial is Zaiga Gaile.

The memorial has been internationally recognized as a museum and for its architectural value. In 2014 it received the European Museum Forum's Kenneth Hudson Award and the Latvian Ministry of Culture's Award of Excellence. As an addition to the main display, the memorial holds exhibitions, lectures, concerts and other events. In the winter season (October to April) it is open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 to 18:00 (20:00 on Thursdays) and in the summer season (May to September) it is also open on Sundays.
