Polmear has been completely restored from its new roof, by its artist owners to provide a simple laid back stylish accommodation, the cottage is located in the heart of Downalong a conservation area and the oldest part of St Ives, all the houses in the area were occupied by fisherman or pilchard packers with toilets at the end of each road!! It’s in the perfect location for a true Cornish beach holiday.
Much thought has gone in to the decoration of the cottage to give an easy relaxed feeling, and at the same time the cottage is tranquil and practical for you to enjoy your stay in St Ives.
The Cottage
Polmear is a typical cottage of the time it was built in the eighteen hundreds when the town was a working harbour so there was no time for laying on the beach! You enter the cottage through a small hallway into the kitchen/dining room with an ample dining table and 6 retro chairs with crazy down light over the table which is operated by touch, Fridge/freezer, dishwasher and easy to use hob and oven, the kitchen is equipped to satisfy any busy mum on holiday, whether you are brewing coffee or cooking a lobster, you will find everything you need to make this a successful operation. Under sink cupboard has cleaning products and pegs for the washing line, a fire extinguisher.
Leaving the kitchen is the living room with built in wood burner “pot belly” stove and comfy sofa, coffee table, retro chair and large rug on stripped wooden floors throughout, TV and DVD player, there is a large assortment of DVDs. The paintwork is bright white and the colour comes from the eclectic mix of art and artefacts that are all treasured possessions of the owners.
Back, through the kitchen you access the stairs stripped wooded floors with an interesting balustrade. On the landing to the left is the main bedroom with a brass bed with vintage throw and white painted wardrobe and chest of draws, bed side tables, full length mirror and en-suit shower, TV so you can lay in bed to watch your favourite programmes.
To the right of the staircase is the bunkbeds room with white painted furniture and built in bunk beds a comfy chair and bright colour textiles and a small table and a built in wardrobe with mirror inside.
Returning to the landing further to the right is the bathroom with a washbasin mounted on chunky wooden shelf, bath with shower and glass shower enclosure toilet and mirrored cupboard panel and room for your cosmetics and bubble baths on three shelves.
