This attractive stone house is set in a lovely old walled garden, and has been designed to give the appearance of a traditionally converted property, by its architect owner, who works from home. It is tucked away from the main road in the charming conservation village of Sandford Orcas, only three miles from Sherborne. The house is tastefully furnished, with a woodburning fire in the comfortable lounge’s inglenook fireplace. The ensuite bedrooms are attractively appointed, equipped to high standard and decorated with the owner’s watercolours of local scenes and France. A good traditional breakfast with homemade marmalade and jam is served in a pine paneled breakfast room where there is also a display of hand made pottery. Good food at lunchtimes and evenings can be had in the Mitre Inn, a traditional village pub, a short walk away. There is also The White Post, the Rose and Crown and the Queens Arms a short drive away, all of which have a good extensive menu every day. The Alders overlooks a Tudor manor house, which is open to the public at certain times, and the medieval church. If you are after a quiet retreat away from the noise of modern life, here only the dawn chorus of the numerous species of birds and calling of badgers, deer and foxes will disturb you.
