If you're planning a visit to Oxford and want to look around the beautiful university, then you really should take advantage of a free walking tour. Hosted by our knowledgeable funny and friendly guide Alan, who's lived in Oxford all of his life and absolutely loves this wonderful city, and who has so many wonderful and fascinating stories to tell you.
This is a genuinely free tour working for voluntary tips only. There are no hidden charges anywhere around the tour, and although tips at the end are welcomed only if you have really enjoyed yourself, absolutely no pressure will be put on you at all to leave one.
The tour will take you all around the most important historical sights to see in Oxford, with a clear description of what you are seeing at the 10 stopping points along the route. But it is so much more than just that. Oxford, as well as being amazingly beautiful, also has an incredibly peculiar history and some really weird traditions, and the fun of all this will be brought out to its fullest on this enjoyable tour. It is a balanced combination of knowledge, humour and interesting stories that is aimed at people of all ages. The entire tour is just 1.2 miles long, and the walking pace is very gentle, the whole distance being covered in about 40 minutes, with the rest of the 2 hours spent resting at the various 10 halts around the route.
We depart from the main crossroads in the centre of Oxford, directly opposite the famous Carfax Tower - ask anyone in Oxford where Carfax Tower is and they'll know! At other times during the day however, you can find us handing out leaflets and offering information at the corner of Cornmarket Street and Broad Street. Why not come and meet us there ahead of the tour, earlier in the day. You can't miss us dressed in bright red with a red bag and large red banner, and you can meet Alan, the guide, who will be taking you around the city and the University.
The tour does not operate on every day, and is mostly weather dependant, so to avoid possible disappointment, we would strongly suggest that you either telephone us on 07 899 499 099 (and please do leave a message if we cannot answer your call) or check our website www.redcitytours.com for days of operation and further infomation about the tour.
