Family home of the Dalyell family since 1612. It was built by Thomas Dalyell, a butter merchant in the City of Edinburgh, who had made a fortune at the Court of King James VI & I. Additions to the House were made by later Dalyell's in the 18th & early 19th century. In 1944 the family gifted the House to the NTS keeping the right to live in the house contributing to the upkeep & maintenance in a partnership arrangement with the National Trust for Scotland.

The House has an interesting collection of furniture, porcelain, silver & family portraits.

The House is open from 1 June to 30 September, every day from 2.00-5.00pm except Thursday & Friday when the house is closed. All tours are guided. Last tour 4.15pm.

Parkland open all the year round 10.00-7.30pm when the gates are closed.
