The Birthplace Cottage and Exhibition Hall tell the story and ongoing legacy of the world famous philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie. With new interpretaion and audio presentations the Cottage charts Carnegie's youth in Dunfermline and the impact of the linen factories and steam-powered looms on Dunfermline's handloom weaving industry.
The Exhibition Hall follows Carnegie's working career in America from cotton factory bobbin boy, telegraph operator and railroad developer to Steel King of America. Interactive touch screen displays add another dimension to the interpretation of the remarkable Carnegie story and demonstrate the full extent of his global philanthropy.
The fully accredited museum enjoys 4 star VisitScotland status with a Gift & Coffee Shop and small Victorian garden. The busy education, events and exhibitions programme includes activities and workshops for children. Venue hire is also available. Admission free; disabled access; pay & display parking; Open Mar-Nov, Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 2-5pm, also open by appointment.
