Grandfather's House (graded 4 stars) is a sweet, cosy, chunky stone cottage with deep jewel-like windows.
Inside are fun furnishings, Suzan's wildlife paintings and, squished under eaves, an open-plan bedroom with a quality memory foam king size bed and ensuite shower room. After cycling the hills, a good walk, relax by the cosy log/peat burning stove cuddle up with a book and a glass. A romantic truly Hebridean retreat.
Grandfathers House sits opposite a seafood joint; Julie and Steve are happy to deliver their home made fresh seafood meals piping hot to the cottage. Gail and Ruben from the Temple Cafe at Northton serve lovely coffee and tea's and are known for their excellent homebaking. All great after a good walk to the Temple, up the hills, or a day out at one of the four Norhton beaches or spectacular Scarista beach and estuary opposite the cottages.
Jan and Suzan of Beachview Cottages are exceptionally warm, fun hosts who go out of their way for you – or leave you in peace to enjoy fishing, biking, seal-watching, kayaking, walking or climbing. They can advise you on the best places to go fishing, the nicest walks, family or award winning restaurants to eat out, where to source local produce such as scallops, lobster, crab.
Don't be surprised to watch a Golden eagles soaring over the cottage, meet an otter at the first or third beach as they live there., As we have planted many fruit bushes and trees to create a safe wildlife habitat; also the otters feel at home, we have seen them in our garden over winter twice! Seals are seen very often and with kayaks you can come very close to them. You won't be disappointed coming for a relaxing, romantic and active holiday to the truly unspoilt Isle of Harris!
