Wyndcliffe Court is a Grade II listed Arts and Crafts house just outside Chepstow in Monmouthshire designed by Eric Francis and built for Charles Clay in 1922. The house stands on high ground facing south, with magnificent views southward over the coastal plain and Bristol Channel. Clay commissioned Henry Avray Tipping to design a garden to the south and west of the house. Francis and Tipping were used to collaborating, for Francis was the architect of two of Tipping's own houses. Their familiarity is evident at Wyndcliffe, where house and garden sit happily together. The garden, with its toppling yew topiary, sun-warmed stone walls, formal terracing, trickling fountain and bowling-green lawn, bears all the hallmarks of Tipping's designs.
The gardens are open every weekend throughout Summer, and showcase contemporary sculptures by local and well-known British artists. Open from April - September 2015 seasonal sculpture shows will run consecutively, each collection featuring hundreds of sculptures to suit all tastes in a wide variety of mediums, sizes and styles situated throughout the garden and offering the opportunity to view and purchase beautiful sculpture with an outstanding backdrop. There is a tea rooms cafe, serving delicious homemade snacks, drinks and freshly baked cakes. Wyndcliffe Court also has a small gift and curiosity shop! Spend an afternoon exploring the gardens, enjoying the sculptures, watching the wildlife, and having a well deserved snack on the terrace. WC, limited disabled access, Tea Rooms, Coach Parking, Free Car Parking. One off entrance fee, allowing you to return for the rest of the season, as many times as you would like, for free!
