The Royal Oak Hotel is a Grade II listed building which began its life in the 18th century however there is a chimney stack in the Hotel features stone which came from an abbey that once stood in Pool Quay, which dates back to Elizabethan times. The Hotel, formerly the manor house of the Earl of Powis until 1927 has only had three owners including its current owners, Emma & Malcolm Bebb.
Originally The Hotel lay in the grounds of nearby Powis Castle. During its existence for centuries this grandiose Georgian building has welcomed many travellers through its doors. During its time as a coaching inn on the main route to the welsh coast of Wales, the Hotel saw its current function suite used as a stables with its own Ostler (someone who looks after horses). More recently in 2010 The Royal Oak Hotel has had the pleasure of welcoming one of the most prestigious guests that the world can welcome, Her Majesty the Queen, when she visited Welshpool to open its new indoor cattle market and to have lunch at The Royal Oak Hotel.
The current owners of The Royal Oak Hotel, Emma and Malcolm Bebb, had a vision to fuse the rustic charms of this old coaching inn with a modern, contemporary feel. Since taking over The Royal Oak Hotel, Emma and Malcolm Bebb have spared no expense in trying to ensure that their vision becomes a reality, and have ensured that the original rustic charms have been retained.
