This morning over 300,000 homes in the South East and East of England were without power, and many home remain without power. In the South East it is possible that many homes will be without power on Christmas day.
UK Power Networks say that initially around 300,000 homes were affected but engineers restored power to most within two or three minutes.
Currently around 60,000 homes are still without power, but UK power networks says that the number of homes without power is changing all the times as problems are fixed and new problems are reported. Counties affected are Kent, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Engineers are expecting to fix the majority of power problems in the East of England by tonight, but problems in the South East are more severe, UK Power Networks say "engineers are tackling the incidents which affect high numbers of customers first, but if your power is still off at midnight it’s likely you will be off on Christmas Day so you should consider making contingency plans now."
For those affected by power problems on Christmas day, UK Power Networks is planning to buy Christmas dinners for households if they are still without supply. They are appealing for any restaurants or pubs in the East of England and South East who have spare tables on Christmas Day, to email SDCSupportContact@ukpowernetworks.co.uk or call 0800 028 0959.
People are being urged to report power problems or damaged power lines.. 0800 783 8838 (East) 0800 7838866 (South East).
