More than 40 homes have been evacuated as heavy rain across Dumfries and Galloway causes the river Nith to burst it's banks at Kirkconnel. A rest and welfare centre has been set up in the Miners Hall in the village.
Kirkconnel is one of several places in Dumfries and Galloway to suffer flooding today. A short while ago we reported how the Whitesands are of Dumfries has seen roads, homes and businesses fall victim to flood water today. In Dumfries, police are asking the public to stay away from the town centre.
Newton Stewart and Port Logan have also had to be evacuated due to severe flooding.
