On Friday 3rd January the west and south coast of the UK experienced a storm surge due to a deep low pressure weather system, high winds and a naturally high spring tide.
High tide arrived just after mid day on Friday and Blackpool saw huge waves breach the promenade on the Golden mile, and sea wall at North Shore.
Shortly after mid day, Paul Smith, a Civil servant from Blackpool, posted this picture of waves crashing onto the promenade...
