A thunderstorm and torrential downpours have caused significant flooding to the streets of Worthing and Brighton this morning (28th July 2014), and caused travel disruption for much of the South East.
The storm lasting several hours has brought as much as 30.4mm of rain to parts of the South East and Hail as large as 20 pence pieces has been seen in Brighton. Thunder has been heard across the south east since the early hours of the morning, lasting as long as 3 hours for some areas. The sudden deluge has brought severe disruption to travel and localised surface flooding. The AA and Sussex police have warned motorists to be extra careful, and not to risk driving through flood water.
The Environment agency has issued 1 flood warning and 1 flood alert for the south east. The flood warning (Flooding is expected. Immediate action required) is at Kidbrooke Stream at Forest Row, and the flood alert (Flooding is possible. Be prepared.) is for Cranleigh Waters including Elmbridge, Shamley Green and Bramley and the Littlemead Brook including Cranleigh.
