Snow expected in Scotland Thursday and Friday with accumulations of up to 5cm.

After a largely sunny but cold Wednesday, a Low pressure system to the North of the UK will bring gale force NorthWesterly winds of up to 80 mph to parts of Scotland, and up to 70 mph to the North and East of England, North Wales and Northern Ireland from Wednesday night into Thursday.

By Thursday afternoon the wind should ease in most parts of the UK, but strong winds could continue on into late afternoon in the East of England. The met office have issued a Yellow weather warning for wind on Thursday and say that there potential for significant disruption, particularly to transport in Scotland during Thursday morning. There is also potential for coastal flooding along the East coast of England.

The wind will bring with it a period of colder weather for the UK with below zero temperatures expected Thursday night and the NorthWesterly wind making it feel several degrees colder. Snow will almost certainly follow, with accumulations of up to 5cm expected in Scotland on Thursday, starting early in Shetland and spreading South to the mainland by mid morning. There is  Met office Yellow weather warning of snow in force for Thursday and Friday in Scotland.

Although the greatest chance of snow on Friday is in Scotland and the North, snow showers are possible for much of the UK on Friday and temperatures will be markedly colder than we have seen lately.
