The Environment Agency have issues a severe flood warning for the Alney Island area of Gloucester. The agency advises that residents should take action now as flooding is expected tonight.
The warning reads...
At 2:30 pm today; the level at the Gloucester Gauge was 4.45 metres and rising. A peak level of between 4.5 and 4.7 metres is expected to occur overnight tonight. A Severe Flood Warning has been issued due to the potential flooding of houses and static homes from the overtopping of flood defences at Alney Island.
A major operation to deliver sandbags to the area is under way.

There are now 15 severe flood warnings for the UK, 14 in the Thames valley, 2 in the Somerset levels, and the new severe flood warning for Gloucester. There are also 131 less severe flood warnings, and 236 flood alerts, around the UK.
Another low pressure weather system is due to move over the UK on Friday, bringing more heavy rain and strong winds. Gloucester falls within a Met office Yellow weather warning of rain for Friday and Saturday, which is likely to further increase river levels on the Severn at Gloucester.
