Thunderstorms and heavy downpours expected in the south east, east and central England on Friday (5th June)

A plume of very warm and unstable air will head north from France across south eastern, eastern and central England on Friday (June 5th), bringing heavy downpours and possible thunderstorms in the morning. Further scattered thunderstorms Southeast and Eastern England throughout the course of Friday afternoon and into Friday evening, with the risk of further heavy downpours, leading to hazardous driving conditions and possible local flash flooding.

Cloud to ground and and intra-cloud lightning strikes are highly likely, and a moderate risk of funnel clouds and F1/F2 tornadoes across Eastern England during the afternoon and later the far Southeast corner during the evening.

The Met office have issued a Yellow weather warning of rain, warning that 15 mm of rain in less than an hour and perhaps as much as 25 mm, with 30-50 mm possibly falling within 3 hours, in the weather warning area. The weather warning covers the whole of Friday, from 6am until 11.55pm.
