After the last 24 hours, you would be forgiven for thinking it is February rather than June. But the good news is that by tomorrow, the low pressure systems that have brought gale force winds and heavy rain to much of the UK, will have passed, making way for settled, warmer weather.
However, before I write about the settled weather, let me just add one caveat. Watch out for possible thunderstorms this Thursday in the South East of England.
Now for the better news... Sadly it's not yet going to be the brain melting heat wave you have probably read about in the tabloids in the last few days, but Tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd June) it will be fine, dry and warmer across most of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and southern and eastern Scotland. Warmer, but cloudy with isolated showers for the rest of Scotland.
For Thursday through to Friday we will see mixture of sunny spells and light patchy rain, with a high chance of thunderstorms in the southeast on Friday.
The weekend will get off to a good start if you are in the south, with warmer, sunny weather for most. But if you are in the north you can expect windier conditions with the occasional shower on Saturday. Sunday will start off still rather unsettled in the north with sunshine and blistery showers. Elsewhere it will be warmer and more settled, with quite few sunny periods, particularly in the south and east.
Much of the UK looks likely to be settled throughout next week, with a fair amount of fine and dry weather. However the far north-west may remain more unsettled whilst a stiff eastern breeze could affect the south at times, here there is just a risk of some rain or thundery showers extending north.
Towards the middle of June, things become more uncertain. However, it looks as if high pressure could shift further north bringing brighter and warmer conditions to Northwest Scotland also, whilst southern areas remain warm but perhaps with thundery showers.
High pressure will probably be present towards the north of Scotland through the middle of June. This should bring dry and fine weather to most parts, with warm conditions across the north, especially the north-west. It may be very warm in the south at times, although here there is a continued risk of thunderstorms spreading up from continental Europe.
Confidence in the forecast evolution is very low towards the end of June; however, the general trend looks set for the weather to remain similar, with drier conditions in the north, more unsettled in the south at times, and temperatures more likely to be near, or somewhat above normal generally.
