Storms Expected In Northern Parts Of The UK

The Met office have issued a Yellow warning of strong winds for Northern parts of the UK on Saturday 14th of December, and Northern Scotland on Sunday 15th December.

A storm caused by a low pressure system will bring strong South-Westerly winds of up to 70mph and heavy rain to Scotland, Northern parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Saturday 14th December, with Western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland expected to see the strongest gusts and heaviest rain.

The storm is expected to reach Northern Ireland by the early hours of Saturday morning, and the Western Islands of Scotland by around 8am. Through the morning the weather will continue to deteriorate as the storm moves East across Scotland, Northern England and Wales. Cornwall will also see some strong gusts and wet weather.

Winds should ease by late on Saturday but a second storm on Sunday will bring further strong winds and rain to Western and Northern parts of Scotland.

The storm could disruption to travel in affected areas. Traffic Scotland have warned motorists of the threat of crosswinds and falling trees. Ferry operator CalMac have said that many of its services would be cancelled or disrupted.

The Met Office have warned that large waves caused by the very strong winds could also lead to wave overtopping on exposed coastlines of western Scotland, particularly around high tide.
