Tonight, 18th July 2014, into 19 July, thunderstorms and heavy rain will move north across the country. As the very warm an humid airmass becomes increasingly unstable, some particularly intense thunderstorms and torrential downpours will develop, affecting many parts of the UK.
The Met Office have issued an Amber weather warning for most of England and East Wales, and less severe Yellow warning for the rest of the UK.
Tonights storms will certainly bring lightening and heavy rain, and there is a chance of hail stones and localised strong, even gale force winds. Localised flooding is also a possibility.
Many areas of the UK are likely to miss the worst of the storms, but because at this stage it is not possible to identify exactly which areas will be affected, weather warnings will remain in force for most of the UK.
This will be the second night of thunderstorms. Last night, many witnessed some of the most intense displays of lightning to be seem widely over the UK in many years. Tonight promises to be just as, if not more, intense.
It's not very often that people are able to take so many photos of lightning, but many amazing photos and videos have appeared on TV news, and all over social networks today. This is in indication of just how severe the storms were last night, and just how severe they could become tonight.
